10 out of 10 for our Manchester Team!
Chris Finnigan has recently been appointed as Branch Manager for Ligentia Manchester, having joined the business last year when Ligentia acquired Air & Cargo Services.
Previously, Chris had been working as an Import Manager within the business for 4-5 years and before that, he worked for DB Shenker and so has spent the whole of his career working in the freight industry.
Chris was already familiar with the Ligentia business, ahead of the acquisition and knew the business had a reputation for excellence in delivering technology-driven enterprise-level solutions to major retail clients. Chris could see that the acquisition was a strong and positive move for Ligentia, bolting-in strong freight forwarding capabilities and a national branch network from the legacy A&CS business.
The move changed the size and dynamic of the Manchester Team, bringing the total team number to 10 people. It also saw the previous Branch Manager moving into a business-wide compliance role, creating the personal opportunity for Chris to step up to lead the Manchester Team.
Chris’ first focus is to make the utmost of the skills and abilities of a dedicated and friendly team who really know their stuff and are able to deliver both top-end solutions to Enterprise customers and simple, effective freight forwarding solutions to Plus customers, irrespective of the size and volume of goods to be shipped.
‘Naturally, our first focus is to deliver outstanding service to our existing clients and to make sure they are aware of the full breadth of services we offer.’ Chris explains: ‘But beyond that, we’re putting a clear emphasis on sales to grow and develop the business. Our region has a lot of opportunities. Plus we’re looking to leverage some of the niche strengths that we have here, including growing the work we do for the military and in frozen food.’
Each member of Chris’ team has something distinctive to bring to the party. Each has particular skills and expertise to grow both traditional ocean business as well as our air freight proposition. The team has clear milestones to meet and Chris is confident that the team will continue to grow at pace, creating more opportunities for team members to grow and develop their careers along the way.
For anyone outside the industry, who is considering making the move into freight forwarding and Logistics, Chris has this advice: ‘This is a great industry to work in, but it’s not one that features on the radar of careers services in schools and colleges. I came into it via a youth training scheme at the start of my career and now Ligentia are also bringing in trainees via this route. It’s a dynamic industry and offers the kinds of jobs where no two days are the same, so you’re always learning and developing. And at Ligentia, the size of the company, our ambition and the appetite for growth means that if you want fast career development, there are always opportunities to step up and move forward.’
